A rustic cabin with a modern twist, this 12,500+ sq. ft. black a-frame contrasts beautifully with the surrounding nature. This cabin is the perfect getaway for many to enjoy. While it is intended for a large family’s retreat, this home still feels cozy enough for two.
This cabin was designed with the intent to have a rustic feel with a modern twist. Within the architecture, the classic a-frame structure makes the space feel rustic, and the large scale modernizes it. Also, taking two a-frames and crossing them helps with the intent of a modern take on the classic shape. The exterior materials are black metal roofing and black metal siding, making it feel modern, while the stone brings in the rustic design.

The interior materials of the structure are a beautiful warm wood, with the beams being stained black, bringing the black, modern exterior inside. The contemporary glass railings add to the desired design intent. Classic pieces were used within the space such as the Papa Bear Chair and the Wishbone Chair. These pieces were chosen because they are a good mix of both the classic/rustic feel while also being modern pieces many people know and love.
In the kitchen, modern appliances are used with mixed cabinets and counters, which tie together the ideas of rustic and modern. Throughout the home, the concrete floors make it feel very modern with rugs placed to warm up the space. Greenery is used throughout the spaces to add to the natural feel.
Furnishings were chosen with a mix of both rustic and modern. Many pieces of the furniture chosen are modern, with a few select pieces such as the Bernhardt Harper rocking chairs and the hide rugs, tying in the rustic nature of the cabin. Lamps were chosen with antler bases, and fur throws are placed throughout to bring more rustic objects in the space. Modern chandeliers and pendants are hung to counterbalance the large, rustic look. Rustic wood side tables, dining tables, and nightstands are used, while sofas, the entry table, and beds have a fresh modern take.
